Food For Thought
As I said before, I work in a cancer lab that sees a number of patients everyday suffering from a plethora of diseases. It just so happens that a few months ago a patient; newly diagnosed with cancer also suffering from aids came to see us. I was given the opportunity to speak with middle aged woman a few days ago and I asked if she could spear a moment of her time. She kindly obliged. I told her about the interesting HIV class I was enrolled in. I let her know that a major part of this class is dedicated to understanding what everyday life is like for an individual suffering from this ailment and asked if she could offer some insight. One thing she said that stuck with me the most was that it is important to have a support system. She said having someone to talk to and share your thoughts, to lean on, and just keep you positive makes the greatest difference. I now look forward to chatting with this patient every time she comes in for treatment and I enjoy every thought and feeling that she shares with me as I consider it an honor and privilege.

HIV A Human Concern
HIV is a serious immune deficiency virus that affects countless individuals throughout the world, including countries in Africa, India, the US, and China. Research to find a cure for the disease has lead to a number of treatments and adjuvant therapies that prolong the life of the individual tremendously. The result being that an HIV diagnosis no longer attributes to a death sentence.
Unfortunately for many countries within Africa, where even the basic of medical necessities are a rarity, HIV treatments are unheard of. These countries cannot afford medication for it's citizens and rely on foreign organizations for assistance. There are also public awareness committees that inform men and women about practicing safe sex, never to share needles, and countless other preventative measures to maintain their health.
There is evidence alone in the numbers and statistics of individuals suffering from HIV, that further research is needed to develop more efficient therapies and that more aid should be available to countries less fortunate.

About My Self
I completed my bachelor's at the University of Central Florida with a Molecular and Microbiology Major and I plan on attending medical school in the near future. In the mean time, I currently work at a cancer lab for a private company and I am taking this and a few other courses to enlighten my self on different aspects of medicine.
