Food For Thought

As I said before, I work in a cancer lab that sees a number of patients everyday suffering from a plethora of diseases. It just so happens that a few months ago a patient; newly diagnosed with cancer also suffering from aids came to see us. I was given the opportunity to speak with middle aged woman a few days ago and I asked if she could spear a moment of her time. She kindly obliged. I told her about the interesting HIV class I was enrolled in. I let her know that a major part of this class is dedicated to understanding what everyday life is like for an individual suffering from this ailment and asked if she could offer some insight. One thing she said that stuck with me the most was that it is important to have a support system. She said having someone to talk to and share your thoughts, to lean on, and just keep you positive makes the greatest difference. I now look forward to chatting with this patient every time she comes in for treatment and I enjoy every thought and feeling that she shares with me as I consider it an honor and privilege.
